Is
it feasible?
Guitars on the Beach record attempt,
September 7th 2013, Lyme Regis town beach. The idea was to create a record for the
largest number of people strumming guitars in one place and all playing the
same piece of music.
Permissions
and Access
Town beach is an open area which needs no
permission to access. Access is for
everyone although it might have been better, in retrospect, if an area of the
beach had been cordoned off for just the guitars players. Other family members and friends could have
been accommodated outside this cordoned area which would be directly in front
of the stage.
I had spoken with various event organisers
who had said that they would be glad of a photographic record of the
event. I had planned to follow an
experienced guitar player from when he practiced the song from music obtained
on the internet to when he was on the beach taking part in the record attempt.
Site
reconnaissance
I reconnoitered the site the day before the
event was due to take place. In the
height of summer the beach has many more that the two and a half thousand
people that were planned to take part in the event so size wasn’t a problem.
It had been thought that the event would
take place when the tide was at its lowest point, giving more room for all the
would be record breakers to stand. As it
was the tide was on its way in and consequently the beach became smaller as
time went on.
